Meet The Raes

Well, here goes nothing! Today is such a gloomy, yet glorious, day! I have been doing nothing but hanging out with an almost 2-year-old snack monster + folding endless laundry. But somehow, I love it. So I thought today would be the perfect day to finally jump into this whole blogging thing (& pretend like I have SUCH an interesting life that people will want to read about it). Here it goes...

My name is Laura Rae. I am an elementary teacher turned stay-at-home-mom. The switch started as soon as we had our little girl in 2017. The change hasn't been THAT drastic. Now that kid that I'm telling not to pick their nose for the 435th time is my own kid, not someone else's. So that's nice... but I definitely miss it some days. My passions are pretty simple. My family, furballs, food, and my home. And that is mostly what this blog will be about. Whether it's a post about having an hour long standoff with a toddler over eating ONE BITE of a meatball, a post about cooking said meatballs, or a post about our kitchen renovation that's now covered in meatballs. Whatever the day brings, I might just blog about it. Basically because it gives me an outlet. I've always loved writing and let's be honest, who doesn't like talking about themselves? So here we are...

My husband, Matt, and I met when we were 15 & the rest is history. We've been together ever since. Getting pretty excited about turning 30 in the next year only because that means we will have already been together for half of our short lives on this rotating rock. He honestly is my best friend & makes me such a better person...gross, okay sappy love story over.  Matt is an Orthopedic Surgery Resident. Basically a carpenter on the human body. And for anyone who doesn't now what the residency process is like, you're lucky. It's a longggg and grueling process but apparently the end is great... still haven't gotten there yet so I'll let ya know in three + a half more years. He works his butt off and still comes home to turn our house into a Martha Stuart Magazine.  Honestly, if this whole ortho thing doesn't work out, he would absolutely kill it being a contractor (there are so many similarities between ortho surgery & home reno... it's slightly terrifying 😂). See how much more I wrote about my husband than myself? Laura = boring.... Matt = badass.... Just kidding, I might be boring, but I'm a boring badass 😉

Together, we've created the perfect specimen. Her name is Sawyer Lynn. She's the perfect combo of sass (me) + whit (Matt). She'll be turning two in a little over a month. I'm not quite sure how to handle that. A two year old? I still feel like she's this cute little girl that someone has trusted us to babysit 😅 But I guess that kinda is what having a child is like... God trusts you with this amazing gift, for life. This gift you get to raise & pour your soul into. I've always dreamed of being a stay-at-home-mom. Some of you may think "woof" when you hear that, and I get it! It's not everyone's dream and that's perfectly fine. But growing up, my mom was a single mom who worked all. the. time. So I found that my brother & I were raising ourselves at times. I knew I wanted things to go differently for my children. And luckily enough, I am blessed to be able to live out my dream as a SAHM! So, here I am. Waking up everyday and pouring my soul into this tiny human God trusted me with. There are days where I absolutely love it & then there are days where I wish I was still telling someone else's child not to pick their nose for the 435th time. The reality is, the good days outweigh the bad tenfold!

So there it is world! My first blog. Most of you reading this probably already know all of things you just read because you're either my mom or one of my 5 close friends that will feel guilty had you not read this :) Stay tuned for my next post about our basement reno! I have had so many people asking questions like where I got my couch, or my photos, or even what brand of light bulbs we used in the can lights. So I am gonna write a full on blog post all about the basement. The fact that I am exited for that shows you just how enthralling my day-to-day convos are with a two year old... Stay tuned!

Laura 💛

  4. Happened upon your blog while searching for basement renovation ideas. Your basement is beautiful! And I wholeheartedly agree with you about turning that unused mess of a space into something beautiful and usable. So, I was able to talk my (transplant surgeon) husband into renovating. Just started this week and so excited!
As for your adorable 2 year old, enjoy every second!! Sixteen is much worse!!!
